War Crisis: The Other Battle Where Ukraine Is Winning Over Russia

Everyone’s attention is currently now on the ongoing war crisis between Ukraine and Russia. Everyone is worried whether the crisis will end soon or how the people stranded there will survive. There is no doubt that a giant military power like Russia has an obvious edge over small country like Ukraine. But it’s also doubtless that the war has not gone like the way Russia planned.

A dozen of days have passed since the war began and the modern world has been witnessing what a war can do to millions of lives instantly and how it affects the entire globe. But there is another parallel war that is being fought alongside the actual conflict between the two countries- a war of information and a war being fought over internet and social media. And in this, Ukraine seems to be winning over Russia.

Like always, Russia’s authoritarian leadership has blocked all credible sources of information from its side. It has even banned Facebook and restricted access to Twitter. Moscow’s intention is clear. It would like Russians and the world to believe its propaganda instead of reliable sources since the war is not going as it had been planned.

Ukraine, on the other hand, has been using information as its new weapon and providing information about the devastation of war and the Russian aggression before the world which are eventually flooding the social media. Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been even uploading his ‘selfie’ style videos and in a way been winning the hearts of netizens all over the world. Support for Ukraine has been also flooding the internet.

Thus, it proves that information can also be used as a major tool to counter a war or to win a conflict. The global condemnation for Russia and its president Putin has once again proved that Ukraine has successfully used information in this time of crisis.

Though everyone is hoping for a quick end to the conflict, the war on internet is likely to go on.
