As the marriage season is finally here, a video of an Axomiya biya (Assamese wedding) is doing rounds on the social media for a unique reason.
In the video, the bride and the groom, dressed in traditional attires, are seen exchanging the varmala (wedding garlands). As per the age-old tradition, the bridge touches the feet of the groom even if he resists. When the groom’s turn comes, he does the same taking everyone present at the mandap by surprise.
The beautiful bride was caught off guard as the guests cheered for the groom. The duo then sat together for performing other wedding rituals.
The video has apparently gained a lot of attention as the groom decided to break the decades-old Hindu ritual of brides touching the feet of her groom to seek blessings.
While Indian weddings top the list with the bizarre wedding rituals, the video has created a humongous positive buzz. Netizens hailed the groom for believing in the theory of ‘equal partnership’ in marriage.
