Guwahati: All towns in Assam to undergo a complete lock-down in weekends till further notice.
On Friday, the state government has imposed a weekend lockdown (Saturdays and Sundays) in all the towns of Assam excluding the capital city of Guwahati.
Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that lockdown will come into force in every Saturday and Sunday in all the areas under town and municipality committees.
Only emergency services will be allowed during the lockdown days.
However, on weekdays, all these areas will be open till 7 PM.
From Friday, the curfew hours in the state has been rescheduled from 7 PM to 7 AM instead of 9PM to 9AM.
He also said that inter-district travel has been restricted to arrest the spread of the COVID 19 virus in the state.
Besides, areas under Kamrup Metropolitan district will be placed under total lockdown from Sunday midnight.
Sarma informed media persons that government will review the situation after a week.
