Crowdfunding is a way to raise funds through online campaigns. Today, most of the crowdfunding platforms offer space for social and creative campaigns and charity crowdfunding is increasing in the country. For instance Ketto started with a handful of NGO’s and now we have more than five thousand onboard. Many more NGO’s are opting for crowdfunding because of the positive approach they have received from the crowd in the form of funds.
Today, we see a lot of crowdfunding platforms like Ketto, Milaap, Wishberry who have done amazing jobs at raising funds for Northeast India. Northeast is an important part of India. Though at times it has been neglected by us, what I have noticed lately, is that everyone be it a person or a corporate wants to do their bit towards Northeast.
Assam has been witnessing floods every year now. It is extremely sad to see people suffering. Therefore we at Ketto tried our best to raise maximum fund and support them in every possible way. Ketto had raised almost 15 lakh during the 2017 Assam flood.
Significantly, the online campaign was encouraging people all over the world to come forward and extend their support to provide relief to the flood affected people of the North-eastern States.
Milaap, another crowdfunding platform is raising funds to re-launch an App which aims at building and maintaining an Assamese language dictionary. Axomi is the world’s first-ever English-Assamese Dictionary App developed in 2014. However, due to lack of funds, it could not be developed further and hence, has gotten quite outdated. This app has helped many learn the language and has also been put to use for many other literary purposes.
A successful crowdfunding round not only provides your business with needed cash, but creates a base of customers who feel as though they have a stake in the business’ success.
Assam’s popular movie Local Kung Fu 2 had raised almost 9 lakhs through crowdfunding at Wishberry. The list is endless as not only Assam, but crowdfunding platforms have also been helpful to Manipur, Sikkim and the other states in the region.
Things are changing; the people and their perception are also changing. Let technology play its role. Let these platforms and the people do their bit towards Northeast!
Voted one of the most stylish men in the country a number of times, Kunal is an acclaimed actor who has played lead as well as pivotal roles in movies like Meenaxi: A Tale of Three Cities, Rang De Basanti and Raagdesh. He is also the Co-Founder of the crowdfunding platform ‘Ketto’.
