Guwahati: At the time when leading world leaders like US President Joe Biden, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and many other world fame personalities have taken Covid 19 vaccines to boost public morale and confidence in the vaccine, the largest vaccination drive against Covid 19 in India has left out the politicians.
Though there were announcements that the frontline workers would be administered with the vaccine shots in the first phase in India, there were speculations of whether any politician including the PM would take the vaccine or not.
State’s health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ordered that no politician should take Covid 19 vaccine now.
He said, “Prime minister during the video conferencing has instructed that no politician even by mistake should not take the vaccine as it is the right of the health workers to get the vaccine as a priority for their tireless service during the pandemic.”
Besides the health workers, in the second phase-teachers, police and armed forces will be administered vaccines and in the third phase, people above 50 years and people below 50 years with co-morbidity will be provided with vaccine, he added.
On Saturday, India began its vaccination drive. In Assam, the vaccination drive began with top medical practitioners being administered with the vaccine shots.
Assam has so far received 2.20 lakh vaccines which will be administrated in two doses. Sarma added that the state would require another 60,000 to 70,000 vaccines.
