‘Why pay lip service to North East?’: Mahua Moitra on transfer of IAS officer over dog-walking row

Guwahati: Amid a social media outcry over a top civil servant’s decision to shut a sports stadium in the national capital Delhi on Thursday so he could walk his dog that has led to his transferred to the opposite end of the country.

Sanjeev Khirwar, an IAS officer has been transferred to Ladakh, while his wife Rinku Dugga to Arunachal Pradesh.

The bureaucrat couple is a 1994 batch officer of the AGMUT cadre.

Meanwhile, after Dugga’s transfer to Arunachal Pradesh, Trinamool Congress Party MP Mahua Moitra criticized the centre for simply paying lip service to the northeast region.

Taking to the Twitter, Moitra wrote, “Why shame Arunachal by transferring errant Delhi bureaucrat there? Why pay lip service to North East & then treat area like a dump for your rubbish, MHA? Please protest @PemaKhanduBJP @KirenRijiju.”

According to a source, athletes and coaches at Delhi’s Thyagraj Stadium, which was built for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, were ordered to leave by early evening so that Khirwar could walk his dog . A photo of the IAS couple walking with their dog on athletic tracks went viral as well.
