“Will Bring Law to Stop Land Jihad”: Amit Shah at Assam Poll Rally

He also reiterated BJP’s promise of granting schedule tribe (ST) status to Assam’s six ethnic groups and 10 lakh jobs for the youths of the state

GUWAHATI: Assam will have laws against ‘Land Jihad’ in the state if BJP was elected for the second time in the state, said Union Minister Amit Shah on Friday while addressing poll rallies in the state.

Sharpening attack on Congress and Badruddin Ajmal’s All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) alliance, the home minister said that it’s a shame that Congress party has allied with Ajmal’s party which has encouraged illegal encroachments in Assam’s Satras and even national parks.

“Badruddin Ajmal is doing ‘land jihad’. I give you a guarantee that after five years you will not find anyone indulging in ‘land jihad’ in Assam. We will make Assam encroachment free in the next five years,” Shah said.

The union home minister said appropriate laws and policies will be put in place to strengthen Assamese culture and civilisation.

Saying that Assam’s identity is linked to Vaishnav saints Srimanta Sankardeva and Madhavdeva, brave Ahom general Lachit Barphukan who saved the state from Mughal invasion and Bharat Ratnas Bhupen Hazarika and Gopinath Bordoloi, he added, “We will not allow Ajmal to become a symbol of Assam’s identity.”

“Rahul baba should remember that it was their chief minister Tarun Gogoi who was once dismissive of the AIUDF chief and had asked ‘Who is Ajmal?’ And now it is the Congress which has joined hands with Ajmal to gather votes,” he added.

He also reiterated BJP’s promise of granting schedule tribe (ST) status to Assam’s six ethnic groups and 10 lakh jobs for the youths of the state.

Assam has been witnessing frequent visits of Shah as well as other top brasses of the saffron camp including PM Narendra Modi. The state will go to polls in three phases from March 27 to April 6.
