A woman on October 17th, 2019 alleged an employee of the Punjab National Bank (PNB) of cheating her. As per reports, the woman visited the Barama branch of PNB on October 15th, 2019 to deposit an amount of Rs 5,000 but mistakenly she handed out a sum of Rs 10,000 to the bank employee.
“I gave him (bank employee) Rs 10,000 but the deposit slip had Rs 5,000 written on it with his signature. He could have crosschecked with me but surprisingly he didn’t do that. He deposited Rs 10,000 against a deposit slip of Rs 5,000,” the woman said.
Punjab National Bank is a banking and financial service bank owned by the Government of India.
“I had no idea that I gave him Rs 10,000. I realized about it only today and took up the matter with the cashier and the Bank Manager. They refused to believe me. On checking the CCTV footage, it was found that the banker kept the extra money (Rs 5,000). He then apologized and returned me the extra amount,” the woman added.
Local customers further alleged that the employee in question comes to the bank under high influence of alcohol. “This is not the first incident. Similar incidents have occurred in the past due to which we often face inconveniences,” said another customer.
