Guwahati: In a tragic incident, a woman along with her 2-year-old child jumped into a river in Assam’s Silchar on Wednesday night.
The woman has been identified as Soma Rani Namasudra, wife of Sujit Namasudra.
Reportedly, she was walking towards a ghat with her child at around 9 at night when locals saw her. But before they could react, Soma jumped into the water.
Locals informed the police regarding the incident and a team of SDRF was launched to search for them. But due to darkness, the team had to abort the mission.
It is alleged the reason behind the incident to be a family dispute however, the police refused to speculate at this stage.
Meanwhile, an investigation has been initiated regarding the incident. And search and rescue operation is underway.
