Woman attacks on-duty police with knife at Tamulpur, stabs on hand


Guwahati/Tamulpur, Sepetember4: A 37-year-old woman armed with a sharp knife brutally attacked and injured an on-duty police personnel at Kumarikata town in Baksa district last night.

Alekh Lahkar, a personnel of the 24th Assam Police Reserve Battalion at Charaimari, Baksa was attacked by Rafida Begum when he, accompanied by personnel of the Kumarikata police station, tried to intervene a commotion between two suspected bike lifters.

“The police had a tip-off that a stolen bike, Pulsar 220 was currently in possession of Jamaluddin Ahmed Jehadul Barman. When the police team reached the spot, we found them fighting over the bike. I tried to intervene and break the fight, but out of nowhere, Begum attacked me with a sharp knife injuring me on my elbow. I still had my rifle in my hand,” said Lahkar.

Police today registered a case against Begum, a resident of Bahbari in the Kumarikata Police Station, arrested the accused and sent her to judicial custody.

Lahkar, meanwhile was greiviously injured on hand and was treated in the Tamulpur CHC.
