Guwahati: The Kamrup (Metro) district administration on Monday ordered a magisterial probe into the death of one woman while in police custody.

The probe was ordered as per the direction of the Assam Human Rights Commission (AHRC).

As per an official communiqué, the woman identified as one Maina Swargawary was found by a patrolling party of the city police on June 8 from national highway at Khetri area.

The police party then took her the police station where she reportedly fell ill and subsequently unconscious.

Though police rushed her to a nearby health centre, she was diagnosed of having pesticides. Police later took her to Gauhati medical college hospital. However, she later died.
