A woman from the neighbouring country of Bangladesh has alleged of sexual harassment and being duped to the tune of Rs 4.5 lakh by a man in Assam.

As per Sumi Rowshanara, a resident of Dhaka, one Apun had contacted her on the popular social networking site Facebook and offered her medical treatments at affordable prices in India. She mentioned that she was ailing from urine infection and had a tumour. As per reports, Apun has dual citizenship.

On June 19th, 2019 the victim flew to Guwahati and met the accused man. The victim alleged that the man took her to Darjeeling on the pretext of meeting a doctor and sexually harassed her. Later, they returned back to Guwahati for another doctor’s visit to Kolkata.

She alleged that Apun alighted from the train at Barpeta Railway Station along with all of her money and jewellery while she was asleep. She got down at Bongaigaon Railway Station and was taken to Barpeta by the railway police.

Sumi subsequently lodged a case with the Barpeta GRP. She has been brought to Guwahati and is scheduled to fly back to Bangladesh on June 29th, 2019, as per the information available. Meanwhile, the Guwahati police are investigating the matter.
