Woman killed in suspected witch-hunting case in Kokrajhar

Guwahati: In a suspected case of witch hunting, a 45-year old married woman named Anjali Murmu was allegedly killed by four men on May 7, 2022.

The incident took place at Mohanpur village under Gossaigaon police station in Kokrajhar district.

According to reports, the woman was dragged out of her house by the four villagers and was brutally assaulted. She was later taken to an unknown location. Following this, the husband of the woman informed the matter to the village head namely Kandan Kiskuk and accordingly, the village head conveyed the message to the Gossaigaon police about the incident.

The Gossaigaon police personnel immediately swung into action and arrested three persons in connection to the incident.

The arrested persons were identified as Sunil Mardi, Hopna Hembrom and Robinson Kiskuk. However, the mastermind of the case Sakel Hembrom remains absconding.

Based on their confession of the three culprits, the police later found the body of the woman hanging from a tree in the forest area on Monday morning.
