Violence erupted in Koloriang, the headquarters of Kurung Kumey district of Arunachal Pradesh after an irked mob, mostly women vandalized and ransacked the office of the Superintendent of Police on April 29th, 2019.
The women were protesting against the police’s failure to arrest the culprit related to a murder case in which a gaon burah (village headman) was killed, as reported by The Assam Tribune. They were sloganeering against the police and later marched towards the Deputy Commissioner’s office and locked the main entrance gate from inside.
As per the report filed by The Assam Tribune, the village headman of Pakpu village, Bengia Tamang was allegedly shot dead by the supporters of an election candidate on April 25th, 2019. Tamag was visiting Taba village to “escort genuine voters” to the Taba polling station, as per reports.
The agitators demanding the immediate arrest of the culprit after locking the gates of DC’s office did not allow the employees to pass through the gate in the morning, later gave passage to DC Santosh Kumar Rai and other staffers for carrying out official work.
