Guwahati: Paying homage to the unconquerable spirit of the women of the nation on International Women’s Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday announced that he had purchased a traditional ‘Assamese Gamusa’ made by women self-help groups from Assam.
Gamocha or Gamusa is a symbol of Assamese culture; it is one of the most easily recognizable cultural symbols of the Assamese people.
PM Modi also took to Twitter to share his feelings, he tweets saying, “You have seen me wear the Gamusa very often. It is extremely comfortable. Today, I bought a Gamusa made by various self-help groups of Kakatipapung Development Block.”
PM Modi also shared a link of Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission in his tweet.
The cost of the Gamusa was Rs. 1950, as per the tweet.
Notably, PM Narendra Modi frequently makes public appearances with a Gamosa wrapped in his neck.
Meanwhile, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal retweeted PM Modi’s tweet and wrote, “A moment of great pride and massive honour to Assam’s #NariShakti.Thank you @narendramodi ji.”
