A worker died on the spot and another sustained a severe injury after a concrete rod fell on the duo at the construction site of JICA near Aswaklanta temple Guwahati on the North bank of river Brahmaputra on February 14th, 2019.

As per information, the deceased was trapped under a heavy concrete rod which suddenly slipped from the lifting vehicle leaving another seriously injured.

The deceased has been identified as Indresh who hailed from Uttar Pradesh and had been working in the project for the last few years. The injured was rushed to the nearby hospital for medical assistance.

It may be mentioned that on September 5th, 2018, an ill-fated mechanized boat was capsized at the same place after hitting at the pillar of the project. The incident took lives of two students of Cotton College – Ankita Barua and Dimpi Das and another youth – Kankan Das.

Post the incident, locals of North Guwahati staged massive protests demanding Guwahati-North Guwahati bridge over the river Brahmaputra which was also a long pending demand of the locals.

Taking things into consideration, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the six-lane bridge connecting Guwahati-North Guwahati on February 9th, 2019 during his Assam visit.
