GUWAHATI: The Assam Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sramik Sangha on Saturday staged a protest in front of the office premises of the Assam Chemical Company located near the Dr. Bhubaneswar Borooah Cancer Institute, Birubari, here and condemned the Company authority’s alleged discriminatory attitude towards its regular employees.
Sangha president Amrit Kalita said, “Those who are not loyal to the senior officials of the Company are intentionally deprived of their wages. Contrary, the wages of the officers’ faithful are rewarded with their monthly wages even in their absence.”
Kalita alleged that certain regular employees of the Company have been forced to work overtime ever since January. “Despite our overtime work contribution, we are deprived of our salaries for we are not true-blue to the senior officials. At the same, the authority has been paying wages to part-time workers on a daily basis.”
The president alleged that certain regular employees of the Company have been deprived of their wages for their association with the labour unions. “The authority of the Company has been violating prescribed norms of the labour law,” he said.
According to Kalita, two permanent employees of the Company have been put under suspension ever since January this year resorting to a lse allegation. “The suspended employees’ only fault was they are associated with the labour unions. The Company’s authority is not ready to hear the grievances of the suspended employees citing the pandemic situation. Accordingly, they are deprived of justice,” Kalita said.
During the protest, the Sangha also appealed the department of labour, Kamrup district administration as well as the state government to streamline the alleged authoritarian attitude of the Company’s senior officials and to give justice to the victims.
