    World’s Largest Transport Aircraft reached Kolkata with Baghjan snubbing equipment

    The OIL authority has brought the unit weighing around 59,000 kg from Canada

    GUWAHATI: World’s largest transport aircraft- AN 124 (Antonov) carrying the much-awaited snubbing unit to douse the Baghjan blowout well of Oil India Limited (OIL) finally reached Kolkata on Wednesday night from where the unit will be brought to the blowout site.

    The OIL authority has brought the unit weighing around 59,000 kg from Canada hoping to completely snub the Baghjan well that has been spewing gas uncontrollably since June 9.

    The aircraft is so massive that neither Guwahati nor Dibrugarh airport has the capacity to accommodate it. The aircraft was commissioned by Piston Well Service Inc of Canada which was hired by Alert Disaster Control, Singapore.

    The unit that has started its Assam bound journey from Kolkata via road is likely to reach the well site in two weeks. The complex operation will include a total of eight foreign experts besides the OIL and ONGC crisis management team.

    The snubbing operation is likley to be finished by November-end.
