Wrong treatment takes life of police constable in Gate Hospital

Guwahati, December 5: A police constable today died due to an alleged wrong treatment at Gate Hospital located at Noomati in the city on Wednesday.

The deceased constable named Babul Ali halied from Mandakata, about 44 km from the city and was deputed in east Guwahati police district’s Dispur police station

Family members of the deceased alleged that the hospital authority did not provide proper treatment to Ali who was suffering from a non-lethal disease — piles– for the last few days.

“Not just that, but, the hospital authorities informed about his death two days after his expiry,” a family member said. Ali was earlier admitted to the GMCH for treatment.

But, to a major embarrassment to the health department of the state, the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) authority had allegedly asked the family of Ali to admit him in a different hospital stating inoperative condition of the endoscopy and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) equipment.

Later, he was admitted to the Gate Hospital, located at Noonmati Mathghoria in the city, for better treatment.

Moreover, the Gate Hospital authority allegedly refrained from discussing the matter with the family members despite repeated attempts made by the family members.

An FIR has been lodged at the Noonmati Police Station against the hospital authority.
