Guwahati: Maina Chutia, a young and talented boxing and wushu player from Moran, who has been in judicial custody since last June 17, 2022, finally got to walk out of jail on Friday afternoon after she was released once her bail procedures were completed.

According to reports, Maina was jailed for allegedly commenting on a Facebook post, written in favour of the banned United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I).

Almost after one and half months, a lower court in Charaideo district on Friday granted bail to the wushu player from Moran.

It is also learned that Maina will be participating in a Wushu tournament slated to be held on August 7 and August 8, 2022, in Guwahati.

Earlier, the Gauhati High Court granted bail to Barshashree Buragohain, an undergraduate student of Assam.

Buragohain was jailed for allegedly writing a pro poem on the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I).

She was charged under provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

On May 17, Buragohain was picked up for posting “anti-national” poems on social media.
