Guwahati: A man was arrested by the Kadamtala police in the North Tripura district’s Sarala the Assam-Tripura inter-state border on Tuesday for allegedly engaging in unnatural sex with a calf.
The arrested accused identified as Halim Uddin, residents of Kotamoni, Patharkandi in south Assam’s Karimganj district.
The incident occurred in Bangaljum area of Sarala GP, when Halim was assigned to work as a labourer at a water supply project in the area, allegedly took the calf to a remote location when no other worker was present, said sources.
However, a neighbourhood kid allegedly witnessed Halim taking the cow and informed several people.
Meanwhile, locals caught him and reported him to the police after they allegedly witnessed him having sexual intercourse with the animal, sources claimed.
Afterwards, a police squad from the Kadamtala police station arrived and detained Halim.
A case has been filed under Section 377 (unnatural offences) of the Indian Penal Code and the appropriate section of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, sources added.
Accused will be produce before a court on Wednesday, sources said.
The calf, which was injured when Halim allegedly attempted to have sexual intercourse with it violently, was taken to a nearby veterinary hospital for a medical examination before being returned to its owner, according to sources.
